The past few weeks, a lot of disappointing things have happened. Some of them were not the worst thing in the world, some of them were a jolting dip into a reality that I neither expected nor wanted. I am still sort of reeling.
The best way for me to deal with life's disillusionment is to allow myself time to wallow, and then get right back up, over, and on with life. My usual methods aren't working so well this time and I kept coming back to how unfair it all it all seems.
As I continued to wallow, I started to realize how ridiculous I sounded. How spoiled and pampered and first world problemish my problems really were.
I am so very lucky. I have so many things in my life that are well for lack of a better word...good.
So I have decided that the goodness is what I'll focus on. What I'll try and remember when life gets overwhelming and I sink back into my muddled thinking.
Now that I've sufficiently bummed you out...here are some things that quite simply are good.

Good Thing #1: The princess' heart.
I realize that the princess is my kid so it's natural that I would think she is the greatest kid in the universe. Heck, thinking your kid is better than all of the other kids is a prerequisite to being a mother. But please believe me when I say that this child, my child, amazes me every single day with her open heart, kind and generous nature, and capacity to love. When people use the term "heart of gold" I never really believed it was actually possible that someone could be that good, but as usual the princess proves me wrong and consistently reinforces my faith in everything.
Good Thing #2: I booked our Monterey trip
I'm so excited to have this to look forward to so soon! The princess and I need to just do something fun together and I'm grateful for the means and opportunity to take her on a fun vacation. A few years ago it wouldn't have been remotely possible. We're visiting the Monterey Bay Aquarium and going on a whale watching tour! This time of year there are kinds whales and dolphins in that part of the central coast, so I'm really looking forward to what we may see!
Good Thing #3: Trader Joe's Cookie Butter
This should be called the devil's business, because, I mean....obviously. I can't express the amount of effs I do not give about that though. I have been trying to cut my sugar intake down this year and a spoonful of this is perfect for satisfying my sweet tooth for not that many calories. It comes in crunchy and creamy and is practically perfect in every way.
Good Thing #4: KelsNotChelsNotLive
For a few years now, Kelsey has been one of my favorite people. At first she was just one of my favorite people on the internet before she ever knew who I was, then by happenstance she became one of my very favorite friends. About a month ago, Kelsey launched her very own weekly vlog series for writers called KelsNotChelsNotLive and it is one of the best parts of my Friday morning. Please go and check her out, rate, and subscribe...not that she needs me to plug anything she does, she's incredibly talented and amazing enough on her own.
Good Thing #5: This elephant..because seriously.
Seriously...how precious is this?
So...what's good with you?

Tameka!! You are my favorite. :D
ReplyDeleteAnd how did I miss your blog re-design, because OMG it is the cutest one ever!!!
I love you so!
I love this post. I remember not too long away wallowing in some first world existential nonsense about the lack of creativity in my life, something snapped inside of me and I thought, how lucky am I that this is my biggest problem today?
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree about TJ's cookie butter. Please tell me you have tried their chocolates that are filled with the cookie butter?
I am loving the new blog design, as well! Do you have a link for the creator? I am thinking of a makeover, too.
Sorry, I just found the link you already have posted, I will check it out!
