Since I haven't really been around recently, I figured I'd share some of the highlights of my July with you. Feel free to follow along.
So, I saw Magic Mike. Twice. Before I share my thoughts, I want to mention that I am not the type of lady that attends male dance revues. My only reason for deciding to see the movie in the first place is because of Channing "Sweet Jesus Look at Those Abs" Tatum. Just because I paid $12 to see this film doesn't mean I condone male stripping as a profession because quite frankly, the thought of some random dude waving his random thong-clad penis in my face makes me want to toss my cookies. If and when there is such an occasion where there is an actual penis in my actual face, I will definitely know it's hopes, dreams, and middle name before landing in such a circumstance.
That being said, after two viewings (for clarity's sake of course) I was entertained and amused that despite having an Oscar nominated director at the helm, it really was just about hot dudes getting naked. I've decided to be okay with it.
I also got the chance to see The Dark Knight Rises, the final film in Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy. I am a huge fan of Christopher Nolan (hello Inception) and really love Christian Bale's take on Batman...despite the weird smoker's voice he uses while dressed up in the suit. I thought the movie was awesome and visually stunning. Tom Hardy was incredibly scary as Bane (or Bain - whatevs) but I also really loved his speaking voice and couldn't help but picture him reading selected works of Shakespeare aloud. Anne Hathaway made me want to hop on a treadmill and take Pilates just to see if I could one day kick my leg that high, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt made me want to settle down, move to the suburbs and start popping out skinny tie wearing babies, but that is of course beside the point. If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend it.
The biggest highlight of my month was the week long vacation I took at the beginning of July. A few months ago, I mentioned that I would be taking a trip to Texas to visit my Bff of over 12 years and two of my fab friends who live in my computer. I had an absolute blast and managed not to completely wilt in the Texas sun. It was great spending time with Bff and her beautiful family, and it was equally great getting to meet and spend time with the fabulous Smash and Kelsey. I wish I could have stayed longer...but I know Bff would have started getting ideas about me living there permanently and I would miss the smog and avocados way too much!
As an addendum to my vacation, four of my girlfriends and I took a trip to San Diego to celebrate me being alive. Now to clarify, around 5 years ago (exactly in fact) there was a time where me being alive wasn't necessarily something I could take for granted. I don't really like to talk about it, but I'm definitely glad it's not something I have to think about anymore. I was doubly glad to be able to commemorate the occasion having a fun few days with my favorite girls. We wore cute outfits and walked around the Gaslamp District like we owned it, because naturally, we did. The highlight of the entire trip was on day 2 when we decided we were rock stars and rented a pool cabana for the day. It was one of the best times I've had all year, we did all of my favorite things which included lounging, reading, eating truffle fries, drinking champagne and berry infused cocktails, and not swimming for the entire day. If that doesn't say "Yay Tameka's Alive!" I don't know what does.
I don't mean to get too sappy on your arses (who am I kidding, of course I do) but I can't tell you what having so many wonderful friends means to me. Other than the princess and my family, my friends are truly the best part of my life. /sap
So how was your July?
